Alaska Solitaire FAQ
Alaska Solitaire FAQ
Common questions about Alaska Solitaire rules and strategy.
How is Alaska Solitaire different from Yukon?
In Yukon, you can only build down with alternating colors. In Alaska, you can build up OR down within the same suit. This gives you more options and makes the game more winnable.
What does "build up or down in suit" mean?
You can place a card on a tableau pile if it's one rank higher or lower than the top card, as long as they're the same suit. For example, you could place a 7♥ on an 8♥ OR a 9♥.
Can I move groups of cards?
Yes! Like Yukon, any face-up card with all cards above it can be moved as a group, even if the sequence isn't perfect.
What can fill an empty tableau column?
Only Kings or King-headed groups can be placed in empty columns.
What's the best strategy?
Prioritize uncovering face-down cards. Prefer "down in suit" moves first since they set up cards for foundation moves. Use "up in suit" moves when they expose face-down cards.
