Forty Thieves Solitaire FAQ

Answers to common questions about Forty Thieves Solitaire.

What is Forty Thieves Solitaire?

Forty Thieves is a two-deck solitaire game played with 104 cards. You build foundations by suit from Ace to King, and move cards between 10 tableau columns built down in suit order.

How many tableau columns are there?

Forty Thieves has 10 tableau columns, each starting with 4 face-up cards. Only the top card of each column is playable.

What are the foundation piles for?

The 8 foundation piles (2 per suit) build up by suit from Ace to King. Each foundation starts with an Ace of its designated suit.

How do I move cards between tableau columns?

Cards must be placed in descending rank order with the same suit. For example, you can place a 7♠ on an 8♠. Only the top card of each column can be moved.

What happens when a tableau column is empty?

Unlike Klondike, any card can fill an empty tableau column in Forty Thieves. This gives you more flexibility but also requires careful planning.

How does the stock work?

Click the stock to draw one card to the waste pile. Only the top waste card is playable. When stock is empty, the game ends—you can't recycle the waste.

Can I move cards back from foundations?

Yes, cards can be moved back from foundations to tableau columns if needed. Double-click to auto-move a card to its foundation.

How do I win at Forty Thieves?

Move all 104 cards to the 8 foundation piles (2 complete suits each). Scoring is based on moves and time, with a 1000-point bonus for winning.

Can I undo moves?

Yes, Forty Thieves features unlimited undo. Click undo to reverse your last move and try a different strategy.

What's the best strategy for Forty Thieves?

Keep tableau columns even and watch for opportunities to move cards to foundations. Be cautious about building too high on one column before preparing its empty successor.
