FreeCell FAQ
FreeCell Solitaire FAQ
Answers to common questions about FreeCell Solitaire.
What is FreeCell Solitaire?
FreeCell is a solitaire variant where you move cards between 8 tableau columns, building foundations from Ace to King by suit. Unlike other games, you can see all cards face-up from the start.
How many free cells are there in FreeCell?
FreeCell has 4 free cells at the top of the screen. Each can hold one card temporarily, helping you move cards around the tableau more easily.
How do I move multiple cards at once in FreeCell?
You can move a sequential stack of cards if they form a valid sequence (descending order with alternating colors, red on black). The number of cards you can move depends on available space.
What is the maximum number of cards I can move at once?
The maximum equals (empty free cells + 1) × (empty columns + 1). For example, with 2 empty free cells and 1 empty column, you can move (2+1) × (1+1) = 6 cards at once.
Can I undo moves in FreeCell?
Yes, FreeCell features unlimited undo. Click the undo button to reverse your last move and try a different strategy.
How do I win a game of FreeCell?
You win by moving all 52 cards to the four foundation piles, building each up by suit from Ace to King. Double-click a card to auto-move it to a foundation if possible.
Does FreeCell have a stock pile?
No, FreeCell does not have a stock pile. All cards are dealt face-up to the 8 tableau columns at the start, so every card is accessible from the beginning.
Are all FreeCell games winnable?
With perfect play, approximately 99% of randomly dealt FreeCell games are theoretically solvable. Since our implementation uses a random shuffle, some deals may be impossible to win.
What happens if I get stuck with no moves?
Use your free cells strategically to temporarily store cards. You can also undo several moves to try a different approach. If truly stuck, start a new game.
How is FreeCell difficulty determined?
In our implementation, difficulty is determined entirely by the random shuffle. Unlike Klondike or Spider, there's no way to influence difficulty through game settings.
