Canfield Strategy: Beat the Classic Casino Solitaire
Canfield is one of the more difficult solitaire games. It was actually sold in casinos for real money at one point. That tells you something. Here's how to give yourself the best chance.
The Base Card Rules Everything
Whatever rank the base card is, that's what starts every foundation pile. Cards of that rank are your most valuable resource; spend them carefully because you only get a few per suit.
Keep the Reserve Moving
Cards in the reserve are only useful if they get to the tableau or foundation. A card stuck in reserve is a wasted opportunity. Keep the reserve cycling; every card that sits there too long is a problem.
Empty Tableau Spaces Fill Automatically
When a tableau column empties, the game fills it from the reserve immediately. This sounds helpful but can lock you in if you're not ready. Try to keep columns stable once they're set up.
Don't Rush to Fill Foundations
Moving the first few cards to a foundation feels like progress, but each foundation you start is another pile you need to maintain. Often it's better to keep cards in play on the tableau where you can use them.
