Golf Solitaire FAQ
Golf Solitaire FAQ
Answers to common questions about Golf Solitaire rules, scoring, and strategy.
What is Golf Solitaire?
Golf Solitaire is a single-player card game where you clear seven columns by playing exposed cards onto a waste pile. Each played card must be one rank higher or one rank lower than the current waste card.
How many cards are in the tableau?
The tableau has 35 cards: seven columns with five face-up cards in each column. The bottom card of each column is available for play.
How does the stock work?
After the tableau and starting waste card are dealt, 16 cards remain in the stock. You draw them one at a time onto the waste pile when you need a new rank.
Can I redeal the stock?
No. In this version, the stock is used once and there is no redeal. Once the stock is empty, you can only play remaining tableau cards that fit the waste card.
Can Aces and Kings wrap around?
No. This game uses strict Golf rules, so Aces and Kings do not wrap. You cannot play an Ace on a King or a King on an Ace.
Do suits matter in Golf Solitaire?
No. Only rank matters. A card can be played if it is one rank higher or lower than the waste card, regardless of suit.
What happens if the waste card is a King?
In strict Golf, nothing can be played on a King. If the waste card is a King, you need to draw from the stock unless the tableau is already clear.
How do I win Golf Solitaire?
You win by clearing all 35 tableau cards. If you cannot clear the tableau, your result is based on how many cards remain.
How is Golf Solitaire scored?
The golf score is the number of tableau cards left. Clearing the tableau gives a negative score for unused stock cards, so lower scores are better.
Is Golf Solitaire mostly luck or strategy?
Both matter. The deal and stock order create luck, but good choices about which column to uncover and when to draw can greatly improve your score.
