About Proximity Minesweeper

Proximity Minesweeper is a minesweeper variant where distance and clues shape the puzzle. Use the numbers to narrow dangerous squares and find a safe path forward.

Play slowly and build from confirmed information. When more than one solution seems possible, compare which move reveals the most useful new information.

Classic Minesweeper is the simpler comparison and a good baseline. Proximity Minesweeper is for players who want the same tension with a different kind of deduction.

How to Play

Goal

Reveal every safe cell without hitting a mine. Use the distance numbers to pinpoint where mines are hiding.

How to Play

  • Left-click a cell to reveal it.
  • Right-click (or long-press on mobile) to place or remove a flag on a suspected mine.
  • Your first click is always safe — mines are placed after it.

What the Numbers Mean

Each number is the distance to the nearest mine — not just adjacent cells. A 1 (red) means a mine is right next to you. A 3 or higher (yellow/green/cyan) means the nearest mine is at least 3 cells away, and nearby cells will auto-reveal.

Difficulty

  • Easy — 9x9 grid, 10 mines.
  • Medium — 16x16 grid, 40 mines.
  • Hard — 16x30 grid, 99 mines.

Tips

  • Red and orange numbers (1-2) mean you are very close to a mine — flag neighbours carefully.
  • Yellow, green and cyan numbers (3-5) are safe territory — clicking them auto-reveals nearby cells.
  • Triangulate: where two different distance numbers overlap, the mine must lie at their intersection.
