Mahjong Solitaire FAQ
Answers to common questions about Mahjong Solitaire.
What is Mahjong Solitaire?
Mahjong Solitaire is a tile-matching puzzle game where you remove pairs of matching tiles from a layered 144-tile layout. You win by clearing the entire board. Unlike traditional Mahjong, it is a single-player game focused on pattern recognition and strategy.
How do I know which tiles I can select?
A tile must be free to be selectable. A tile is free if nothing is sitting on top of it and it has at least one open side (left or right). Blocked tiles appear darker and cannot be selected. Use the Hint button to highlight a valid matching pair.
What are flower and season tiles?
The four Flower tiles and four Season tiles each have distinct symbols, but any flower tile matches any other flower tile, and any season tile matches any other season tile. This special matching rule makes them easier to clear from the board.
What happens when I run out of moves?
If no valid matching pairs remain among free tiles, the game is over. Since the tiles are shuffled randomly, some layouts may be unsolvable. You can start a new game for a fresh layout. To reduce the risk of deadlock, try to clear tiles from the top layers first.
